Conclusion and Discussion The implemented MP-RAGE sequence introduces an interleaved data reordering along a squarespiral in the 2D phase-encoded k-space in order to achieve the maximum possible SNR/CNR with such a T1-weighted sequence. The compact acquisition of SNR/CNR in the center of the spiral allows significant scan time reduction by omitting MP steps in outer parts of k-space. These initial results have been obtain without sequence parameter optimization. Nevertheless, the approach shows the predicted improvement. PSF shaping has been investigated by simulations. This research has to be extended to find the sequence parameters giving optimal resolution. MP-RAGE with Square-Spiral Phase Encoding Order: SNR & CNR Enhancement in Reduced Scan Times

Comparison of T1-Weighted 3D High-Resolution Anatomical Sequences for the Brain at 3 Tesla: FLASH, MP-RAGE and MDEFT
Introduction: The outcome of automated quantitative morphometric population studies relies greatly on the quality of the cerebral anatomical images. For these applications, it is crucial that the images be uniform and have high spatial resolution, SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) and CNR (contrast-to-noise ratio) between brain tissues. This study evaluates the performance of three different T1-weigh...
متن کاملThree-dimensional, T1-weighted gradient-echo imaging of the brain with a volumetric interpolated examination.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE T1-weighted, 3D gradient-echo MR sequences can be optimized for rapid acquisition and improved resolution through asymmetric k-space sampling and interpolation. We compared a volumetric interpolated brain examination (VIBE) sequence with a magnetization-prepared rapid acquisition gradient echo (MP RAGE) sequence and a 2D T1-weighted spin-echo (SE) sequence. METHODS Thir...
متن کاملFree-breathing 3D late gadolinium enhancement imaging of the left ventricle using a stack of spirals at 3T
PURPOSE To develop navigator-gated free-breathing 3D spiral late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging of the left ventricle at 3T and compare it with conventional breath-hold 2D Cartesian imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS Equivalent slices from 3D spiral and multislice 2D Cartesian acquisitions were compared in 15 subjects in terms of image quality (1, nondiagnostic to 5, excellent), sharpness (...
متن کاملIn vivo assessment of carotid wall shear rate using spiral Fourier velocity encoding
Introduction: Arterial wall shear stress is widely believed to influence the formation and growth of atherosclerotic plaque [1-3], however, there is currently no gold standard for its in vivo measurement. High-resolution phase contrast is impractical due to partial-volume effects, long scan times, and inadequate SNR. In 1995, Frayne and Rutt [4] proposed a novel method for non-invasively estima...
متن کاملEvaluation of the intracranial dural sinuses with a 3D contrast-enhanced MP-RAGE sequence: prospective comparison with 2D-TOF MR venography and digital subtraction angiography.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The diagnosis of dural sinus thrombosis is often difficult because of its variable and nonspecific clinical presentation and the overlapping signal intensities of thrombosis and venous flow on conventional MR images and MR venograms. We compared 3D contrast-enhanced magnetization-prepared rapid gradient-echo (MP-RAGE) sequences with 2D time-of-flight (TOF) MR venography, ...
